State of Michigan shipwreck in the West Michigan Underwater PreserveA 165' wooden passenger freight steamer, the State of Michigan was built in 1875 in Manitowac, WI. She sank in Lake Michigan about two miles north of Whtehall on October 18, 1901. The boiler and outer hull are intact.

Orignally names the De Pree, the State of Michigan was built in 1875 in Manitowac, WI.

She sank on October 18, 1901.  Thought to have sunk from throwing a piston rod from her big engine, but never proven.

Boiler and outer hull intact.
